Parenting classes


The Self-Help Parent Program provides families with skills and support to prevent and recover from family violence, abuse and neglect, as well as to promote positive family communication, increase family self-care and build family strengths.


You can attend parenting classes if:


Parenting classes cover topics such as:

  • Nurturing
  • Children's brain development
  • Developing empathy
  • Understanding our feelings
  • Building self-worth
  • Family morals, values and rules
  • Understanding discipline
  • Developing children's sexual self worth
  • Handling stress
  • Handling anger
  • Trusting relationships

The Self-Help Parenting Program provides short term, crisis oriented, solution-focused individual counseling to address the following:

  • Partner relationship issues
  • Parent-child-adolescent relationship issues
  • Family stress
  • Conflict resolution/problem solving
  • Grief
  • Divorce, separation, co-parenting
  • Strengthening families already in recovery from substance abuse
  • Adjustment issues
  • Life transition issues
  • Developing life skills
  • Goal setting
